Who is Cara Delevingne?
Cara Jocelyn Delevingne is a British model and actress, born on 12 August 1992 in London. She won Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2012, the year before GTA 5 came out. She has since acted in films such as Paper Towns and Suicide Squad.
GTA 5 came early in that acting career. Her voice work for Rockstar predates every one of her film credits but one, so DJ Cara is one of the first parts she ever played.
She plays herself, not a made-up DJ
Rockstar did not write a character and then hire a voice for it. It hired Delevingne and let her be the host, under her own name. The GTA series had done this once before, with Karl Lagerfeld on K109 The Studio in GTA IV.
The DJ keeps Delevingne's accent, her home city and her age. She does not keep her job. On air, Cara says radio is the career she came to Los Santos for, and she never once mentions the catwalk.
She recorded the part twice
Delevingne went back to the studio for the enhanced version of GTA 5. That session added station introductions and other dialogue that the 2013 release does not have. If a line sounds new to you, this is why.
Hearing the performance
Her delivery is fast, bright and sarcastic, and she reads to the listener rather than at them. Two lines show the range:
"Hello everyone, Cara here, taking you through a little bit of magic. We're going to have a great time - these beats are amazing. My head's just exploded!"
"They call San Andreas the Golden State. scoffs Fool's gold, more like."
